Hi Ho...you stole my comeback! Anyway, they look more like Polish bicycle gloves than carving gloves. Looks like someone's trying to hoodwink someone! And they ain't black, they're brown. Ha! Ha!

If you go to Darkwood-Carving.com and watch Gary Crosby's instructional video's, he wears fingerless weight lifters gloves and recommends them. Different strokes.

Eddy, how did you know? If those gloves are "Polish" I may need a pair? I don't have a bicycle and getting too old to consider it!
Keithmc, I did go to the Crosby website and he does use the fingerless gloves but has his wood in a vise with both hands on the tool or using a mallet for large work. I was mostly thinking about the caricature carving most of us do where we hold the wood in one hand and use the palm tools to cut the wood and our fingers with the other? The Crosby website does offer a lot of information and methods of carving different features.

I agree the Crosby has a lot of good information. I thought it was a coincidence that I had just changed from his web sight to your thread. Speaking of the type carving most of us do. I have a proper carving glove and thumb guard. However, I am forever just picking up my little guy carving and starting w/o glove and end up carving fingers anyway. part is it continues to happen. I am really a slow learner.

Norb....

Well, if you don't like Polish then pick on who ever meets your fancy. I always pick on the Polish cause I'm married to a Polish gal.... and fortunately she has a fantastic sense of humor! She's had to, to put up with me for 44-years! Needless to say I'm almost Polish trained! Ha! Ha!

P.S.... In all seriousness I can see where fingerless gloves would be extremely beneficial for chisel and mallet work but as all have stated, not for hand held projects.
