You may be right Capt?? But the more I damage my fingers the more I find myself embellishing my carving glove? I have one of those good white Handguard gloves and have even resorted to wrapping some of the fingers with white duck tape. So nowadays I either go without the glove and look like a daredevil fool or wear the altered glove and look like a sissy, what's a poor ole man to do? I think my defining moment was in March 07 when I had to get stitches in my left thumb below the nail from burying my Enlow Special in it. I guess now I have to endanger everyone by disclosing what the secret of the Enlow Special??? You take a Ramelson skew and sharpen both sides back several inches making it like a long knive blade skew. Only thing is you are pushing it and if it slips just look out!
Norb
PS: I know many folks will wonder what is so special about that skew but like most other tools it is magic in Harold's hands. I've seen Harold make an entire beard or head of hair with that skew in mere seconds! He works the skew and moves the carving at the same time and gets unbelievable results very quickly!

Hmmmmm. I have NINE scars from my left thumb to the tip of my left index finger. Two of them required stitches. I refer to this area as ground zero.

When you experiance enough cuts, you will see the clear path that caused them.
whether it was a dull tool, too much pressure to make the cut, or lack of fore thought to put on your carving protection,

the alternate is so much scar tissue that you cant determine where the scars begin and end,,, thus loosing count,

Clearly, it was the failure to wear my carving glove. Although, one is from a sharpening accident and I do not wear a glove when sharpening. Maybe I should.

Ancient Chinese Proverb... "When the student is ready, the teacher will come." I guess that can apply to carving lessons as well!
