| | Ever misplace your thumb guard? Reading the thread on carving gloves and thumb guards under the sharpening section made me think about how I store my thumb guard because I use to loose (misplace) it quite often.
Here is my simple tip that solved this frustrating problem, use it if you wish.
I carve with a glove on one hand and thumb guard on the other. When done carving for the day, I store the thumb guard inside my carving glove, actually always have two thumb guards with me and place them both inside the glove until my next carving session. Haven't misplaced it in a long time since I started this habit. Take care & be safe. Bill |

| | Re: Ever misplace your thumb guard? That's a clever idea.
I put my Double Cross in one and keep that in my pocket for when I don't have my toolbox with me. I have another I keep in my toolbox for when I'm using my carving tools.

| | Re: Ever misplace your thumb guard? I am glad to see that people are catching on to the importance of wearing "protection"!
Several times in the past I have found myself at our local carving group realizing that I had forgot to pack my "protection" before I left. After muttering a few choice #(*&# I put the knives and blank back in the carving kit and contented myself with just enjoying the company of the other carvers. To me it's just not worth the risk to try and carve without that glove or thumb guard. If I did and then managed to injure myself I would be down until I healed up. No thanks! It's just not worth it. |

| | Re: Ever misplace your thumb guard? here at home
Although i have several thumb guards made, i put it on the handle of my favorite knife it keeps its shape, i have put it inside my glove but that caused me to hunt it for so long, i too like Lynn wont risk carving with out one,,, its probably the reason i have 5 thumb guards is i lost it in the glove 5 times

| | Re: Ever misplace your thumb guard? I misplaced my thumb guard once, started carving! Not good! Had two thumbs on one hand for a while.
I now have several thumb guards placed , in the truck, tool box, on the bench, in the shop, a couple in a baggie for spares.
I agree Lynn, Ain't no fun with a "carved Hand".
Dumb questions like, "Did'ja firget your guard AGAIN"!
Geez, no respect from the family! |

| | Re: Ever misplace your thumb guard? Bill, storing it in your glove is a great idea! I misplace mine all the time and like Kenny, now have them everywhere!! I agree, carving without protection is simply not worth the risk. Thanks again for a great solution to always wondering where the heck the one I'm using went to....now I know....it will be inside of my glove! Deborah |

| | Re: Ever misplace your thumb guard? All good ideas. I have learned the hard way, more than once. Slow learner! I have found out that the best thumb guards are made by the doctor in the ER. Lots of gauze and real tuff tape, and even a piece of curved metal once. Tom H | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
