Default Do you have a problem with foggy safety glasses/goggles?

I sure did yesterday, it was the first day I was allowed to go back to rotary carving since my eye surgery and I had to wear safety goggles instead of safety glasses and they fogged up terribly. I wondered what the heck to do then remembered....SPIT....no, not mine but a product that you use called SPIT, for snorkeling masks, to keep them from fogging up. It worked fantastically!!! I"ll be keeping some in my carving room from now on to treat both my goggles and safety glasses, it's so nice to work without having to stop and wipe the fog off!!!! If you've had a problem, try some, I think you'll be pleased with the results!! Deborah

Deborah,
Never heard of "SPIT" but do use "Rain-x" found in auto supply stores. Also works on bathroom mirrors.

I never had a fogging problem but my glasses seem to be a magnet for any stray dust in the air. Between the dusty glasses and the rubber nose piece on my mask that keeps the glasses too far down my nose, I'm amazed the stuff I power carve comes out looking like anything at all.

I learned a long time ago while ocean diving that the best defogger ( at least for me) is Cat Cr*p.
I use a very small amount and polish it clear with a very soft cloth. 1 container will usually last me 6 month to a year.

Great thread guys! This is one of those to write down in a notebook and put away in a safe place.

If you run out of Spit or Cat Crap, try one of the Dryer Fabric Softener sheets. It stops to fogging and reduces the static electricity so dust does not stick. It is very dry here in Colorado, especially in the winter. It gets annoying when the wood chips stick to your knife blade when carving. Rubbing your tools with the sheet stops the chips from sticking, static gone.
I am a wood turner also. I use a full face mask and it fogs real bad. The dryer sheets fix that too.

I have found that even my glasses fog up not just goggles.
Thanks for the tip Deborah.

Thanks for the tip! I hate wiping and wiping the chips off my blades here in Utah -- a similar climate to your's in Colorado.
