Default Deep texture

I didn’t put a lot of time into this for two reasons the wood had a big bad bark pocket at the legs forced me to adapt the legs much thicker than I wanted to. I also made some critical mistakes by over cutting the head and tail. The thing I wanted to show carvers is you can carve wet green wood if you do it fast enough to allow stress relief. Here is the other lesson deep aggressive texture will hide mistakes.

Nice eagle, has a lot of movement. By carving green wood fast enough do you mean within minutes or within a day or two? I don't know if you used a chain saw on this piece, but would I have any luck with green wood and hand tools? (Okay, maybe not "me" exactly, but some one with average abilities). I have a couple walking sticks I am trying to be patient while they dry.

I did use a chainsaw at this point and nothing else. I believe the principle would be the same wood splits from stress on the outer rings. Carve it fast and take the stress away from the outer rings, I have no more than 6 hours in this. I loose interest in a carving if it takes me more than two days but that’s just me.

Thank you for the reply, I just may have to try one of my sticks (with hand tools)! Chain saw carving SO amazes me! The detail and control with a wood-eating monster in motion is just unbelievable! Brave Souls!
