Wild Bird Carver i have carved some that carved better than others and some that were harder to remove outer shell but WAS NOT SMART ENOUGH to keep up with which ones. Larry

I've been carving golfballs for years but I must admit I've never thought of a pipe cutter to get through the cover. I've always used a dremel. Thanks for the tip! Any chance of seeing some finished carvings? I love to see what other people get up to with this project. So much variety in such a small space! Here's a few for your interest just to get things started... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This last one I call "Once in a Blue Moon"... |

Great idea on removing the covers. I usually do them on a lathe.

I like to use a hacksaw for the covers

yes a hacksaw will work or a coping saw with the ball in a vise..just a word of caution to using rotary tools near the skin of a ball, the outer skin will wind around the rotary cutter say a dremel bit or a saw blade bit( keep it slow-it gets very warm)..I tried that..with good success ..another carving magazine posted a similar ball holding jig..while you went around the circumference of the ball with a cutter ..a few years ago..Bill#1
