Default Cutting Golf Balls

Method to cut golf balls.I drilled 1 5/8 hole in wood to mark center line. took blade out of tubing cutter sharpened it with diamond point in dremel and honed it on buffer.Line ball up in cutter place it in corner of wood vise, tighten cutter enough to start the cut, make half a round turn ball back half round turn cutter to start point, then tighten cutter deep enough to cut through cover tighten vise on ball enough to hold it. you can hear it crack when cover separates.some times you can lift cover off and at other times you will need to use screw driver.

Hi Larry, Dumb Question. Now what do you do with the parts remaining? Do you carve them or what? That is a clever idea of taking the cover of a Golf Ball, but again why? Sorry I'm just Dumb, but interested. Merle

Hey Larry, thanks for posting about carving golf balls. Very clear on how to prepare them for carving. My question is there a difference in different kind of golf ball centers? If there is one kind that doesn't carve well or others that carve very well can you tell from the brand or cover of the golf ball? DM

Tom Rhodes, in his book "Golf Ball Carving Unlimited" there are over 15 pages that list a variety of charasteristics of different golf ball models, from ease of cover removal to color and how easily they are carved.
