OK, my daughter wants me to carve a dog that looks like hers. She is a black cockapoo. That is a cocker spaniel/poodle mix. Can you help me by giving some instructions on making the curly hair?

I would be happy to give you advice but all of the dogs I have done and a few of the bears have all ended up looking like Chinese Crested dogs. LOL Kevin |

Neat project! I think the idea is to get the essence of curls without actually carving all of them. So I think if you get the outline correct with all the little dips and jags that will be a good first step. By the way....it is as far to your house as it is to Spirit's studio....so it would make the trip even longer to come to NC first |

Joy, rats!!!! OK, we'll just have to meet at her studio, OK? I'll try what you said about the curls on some practice wood and see what I can come up with.

Early on ,when I did the first strands of hair, somebody told me, first ,do deep lines in the way you want the hair to flow, ( short waves ,long waves etc.) then do the secondary layer not as deep and at the end do the little feathering, does that makes sence? I have tried it many times and it seems to work for me. Alice |

Alice, thanks for the information. It sounds doable. Do you have any pictures of your carvings I could look at?
