Default Chip catcher for carving in the living room

Since I'm the one who has to clean up, I decided I needed to figure a way I could carve in the livingroom chip free!We were in Staples last week and I found this table that has an adjustable height and is the perfect size for me. Then I made an apron that would work to catch all the chips. When I am finished, I just fold the outsides of the apron over the chips, walk out to the garbage can and let the chips go! Works perfectly. As I was looking at the pictures (thats My husband sitting there, the demo man)I decided you could also use an ironing board the same way, just make a top for it whatever size you need. Its the apron that makes clean-up easy. This is the first time I've uploaded pictures on this site so I hope I did it right.

I think that's a great idea! I usually carve in the kitchen and keep a little broom and dust pan handy. A nice big apron looks like the way to go.Thanks for sharing your idea.

Thanks for the idea. I just set up a carving table inside the den today and was wondering about all the chips that would end up on the carpet.

Thats the great thing about this apron, it can adapt to anywhere you are carving.I am working on plans for a portable work tray with a place for my tools, but have to wait till the weather warms up and I can get out to the shop. Lots of snow here this year.

Good idea except..a good carver can throw chips out 6 feet away LOL don't ask how I know ha ha.....hey Ron...chips in the carpet are a good idea, it will give the termites a snack and they will leave the furniture alone!

Great Idea! I made a apron for my husband out of vinyl. It has a large pocket across the front and the apron is open and wide enough to fit over the arms of his chair. I works for catching most of the chips.

I did something similar, but mine isn't pretty roosters . I also added velcro to the edges and velcro to the work table to keep it in place.
