Hey Gang! I'm looking for a good chair for the shop I am building in my garage. Do any of you have recommendations on a comfortable shop chair that will keep me from having to get up and move around every 15 minutes because my rear is numb? I would like something comfortable, about bench height, that will help me enjoy my carving time. I've been sitting at the kitchen table for the last few years and would like something that will allow me to spend a little more time in the shop. Here's your opportunity to show off the chairs you have in your shop! Do any of you have recommendations on what I should be looking for? I am open for suggestions!! Let's see those chairs! Blake |

And I thought I was the only numb butt around here!! I guess I need to follow my own advice--move around more. Bob L

Hi Blake, I'm finding that the office/desk chair I picked up at Target for about $40 works pretty well. The nicely padded seat on the chair keeps mine from getting numb even after a few hours carving or at the computer. Back support isn't bad either. It's adjustable for height as well. The casters work fine on wooden floors and the arms (in my case) provide a place to support a carving board. Since you're going to be using it in a shop, the arms may or may not be helpful. If I have one minor complaint, it's that the leather (it's leather, but certainly not good leather) tends to feel a bit warm or cold depending upon the environmental temperature. Just something to think about as far as comfort goes, but it's easy to keep clean. It took me about 10 minutes to assemble. I didn't bother with the supplied allen key but simply put an allen-key bit in my cordless drill and had at it. All in all, not bad for the price..

I sure haven't found a chair that eliminates that problem. For those of you not familiar with posting on a deer stand, that condition is known as "stump a**"......er butt, from sitting too long on a stump, waiting for that buck to come along. It's the bane of hunters all across the country, and now it's turning up in carvers??? What next? Al |

I spend the day at my computer for my job, the office chair works well, high back, arms wheels- When the work day is over sometimes I pick up a knife and sit here some more. During nicer weather I use any outdoor chair - high back resin, or folding nylon camp chair with a drink holder in the arm- nice thing about the camp chair is it folds up for storage. Skip the cheap ones, they dont last. BfloBif Blog at www.bflobif.com |

Hey Blake, I traded a Walking Stick for this chair from my Barber. Works great, has hydraulic hight adj. and when you set on it ,it has a spongy feeling. Rolls easy and swivels, the only draw back is you have to hold the chair when you go to set on it because it swivels easy and you might miss the chair. Hasn't happened to me yet but must be aware of it. Don't know where to buy it or the Price, sorry. Merle

Blake, If you look at the chairs people sit in all day at art fairs its usually a tall directors chair much like the one at the link below: Google Image Result for http://culvercity.classicpartyrentals.com/product_image/image/147/021.-Directors_lrg.jpg?1156375035 I also think Bart uses one as well...could be mistaken tho. In my man cave I carve in a regular office chair or my Lane recliner (comfortable).

When we bought a new chair for our office, the old office chair went into the shop. Works great! Dave |

Blake, Nice little seat that Merle has there, Hope Goody doesn't miss it off his Harley. You need something comfortable, but it is also good to get up once in awhile to keep the circulation going. A lot of the office type chairs are very comfortable, and I like the armrests. Good luck, Tom |
