Default Chain carving

Hi all...just finished carving a chain and a ball in a cage. Does anyone have a tip with regards to what kind of finish to put on them? My concern is the parts sticking together while the finish dries.

Love those ball 'n cages, chain link things and they're the best conversational pieces around!

As for finishing I always just put on a thin coat of that Minwax wipe-on polyurethane using a piece of clean cloth, then just rub it in really good until it almost feels dry to the touch immediately. The wipe-on type polyurethanes are good however I have found that the standard poly's work just fine with the wipe-on method too. No sticking while "drying" and it's enough finishing to protect it from dirt 'n such.

No, it's not the same lustrous finish that I put on my mahogany computer desk but heck, it's just a ball in the cage thingy :-)

Talking Re: Chain carving

I put on a couple of coats of Boiled Linseed oil and then some wipe on satin poly.

Here's a couple handles I did that way.

And this a walking Staff that way also. Click on the Next Staff Section to see more of it.

Thanks a lot for the reply guys! I'll give the wipe-on technique a try.
