Default Carving with tired ol' eyes!

While demonstrating the use of Myland Wax, I used a blank that I was carving into a gnome head. After applying and wiping the dark wax off, I pitched the ornament aside. I recently picked the gnome head up with the intent of finishing the carving. When making the first cut I immediately noticed the contrast between the dark wax and the area cut/carved. Suddenly my tied ol' eyes could see the cut lines like an eagle.

One of the immediate benefits to carving the darkened wood is that I could see what I was doing, thus, maybe a cleaner carving.

Hi Tom-H, Do you think if you make your carvings a little bigger might help to see it better. Ha,Ha. You keep making them smaller but they still are good. Well done Tom. Merle

Thanks Merle, but even carving bigger, I'd have the same trouble seeing the cut lines.

And Kenny, the way my eyes are, it may be easier to have my arms extended.....

Hey, that's a neat idea, Tom. I found the older I get the shorter my arms get.

Although I have bifocals, I always push my glasses up so I can see better up close....and I hold it up close to my face to really see. But I bought one of the magnifying head pieces a few weeks ago and I am really starting to like it. I can hold my carving at a comfortable distance and see details well with my glasses on at 3X magnification. I'm still getting used to it though.
