| | Where to carve Anyone have any suggestions for setting up a carving site in the house? I have a 20 x 30 shop that is marginally heated, which means its too cold in the winter to carve. I also like to be by my computer to view tutorials while learning new techniques. My computer is in a carpeted, well lighted room that my wife will let me carve in. Anyone have a setup similar to what I am trying to do? Any photos or suggestions would be welcomed. Thanks TOM H |

| | Re: Where to carve I slide my keyboard to the back of the computer table, (used to put it on top of the monitor, but now I have a flat panel), take out my tools and carve. When I get tired, put the stuff aside, grab the keyboard and yap awhile. Ready to carve, keyboard to the back of the table and out comes the carving gear. For cleanup I use a 3" paint brush and a cardboard box. Rug starts getting a little chippy, a quick vacuuming takes care of it. |

i've got a shop upstairs here at the office, but its too cold in the winter. So I keep a few tools at my desk--and aim for the trash can!

| | Re: Where to carve I carve in my shop, before I got the heating/cooling unit, I used a 5 gallon propane heater with the heater on top...it puts out more heat than you want! lol.......but if you have to carve in the house, how about one of the carving aprons that has a wire frame that you can flip up and out that should catch the majority of chips? I have seen them a dozen times but can't think of the sites? ![001[1]3424](http://www.woodcarvingillustrated.com/forum/images/smilies/001[1]3424.gif) |

| | Re: Where to carve Tom,
I've claimed a corner of the furnace room in our house.
Set up a small table or bench, a few extra lights, a radio, and the hours pass quickly.

| | Re: Where to carve I carve at the Kitchen table and often find that I print out reference materials from my computer to refer back to when carving. I have a tile floor which makes for an easy cleanup when I am finished. I will be moving in April and hope to build something similiar to Muscade's home away from home once we get settled.

| | Re: Where to carve Muscade.... that's terrific, a perfect carving shop. Lots of light, a wood stove for winter and just the right size. I love it. Think you could build me one?
My wife and I looked at a kit much like that for our yard last summer, and I think I'll look again, even harder. I'm tired of carving in the basement, I like sunlight! What are the dimensions, and was it a kit or did you build it yourself?

| | Re: Where to carve I was in thegarage until it got too cold. Then I moved to the basement but am going to have to move back to the garage. The basement is warm but feel to confined need sunlight. I'm looking into a small gas heater for next winter. Ron | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
