Default Brrrrrr! It's Cold Here On The Reservation!

I've just added a new post to my Blog on making a Snow themed base along with how to apply some snow to a figure. This fella doesn't have a name yet but he sure looks cold! I like doing snow scenes and experimented doing them a lot of ways until I finally came up with this method which I think really works out well. The secret to a snow scene, to me anyway, is to keep the snow in scale with the figure. The only thing this method lacks is the sparkle real snow has in the sunlight. However, again at this scale, it would really be hard to duplicate.

Great work Lynn....... both on your friend here and the tutorial! I can see some great possibilities for using your methods. Thanks for taking the time to explain them out to us.

On the Blog, Kenny commented on why I didn't use Sno Tex or other kinds of artificial snow. In one word "Scale". When you reduce snow to the scale of the figure all detail of it disappears except the white and soft look. Also, after ten years I can imagine what that artificial stuff would look like. No....I'll stick with this method cause I know it will stand the test of time.

Lynn, that is a great carving, and a great instructional! I haven't ever done any caricatures, but I'm mentally filing away all this information for use somewhere down the line. the info on bases and snow can be applied to just about any carving! thanks again.

Al

I can hear his teeth chattering from here, Lynn!

I saw some paint somewhere - don't recall what is was called - that had that slightly glittery look to it. If I see it again, I'll get the name in to you.

No, it wasn't the irridescent stuff, either.

Lynn, in defense of the Sno Tex method, It looks the same years later. I have a couple of Santas stuck in it and they have been carved for several years.
It was a question only on the base as you are correct, to scale, it would not look that good on the figure itself. The base to me look like plastic and it may be the reisn causing that. Now don't get me wrong on asking the question as I think that was a fantastic carving and the detail was excellent. Just thought the Sno Tex may have given the base a more realistic showing of snow.
Thank you for taking the time to reply.
