| (My first post): Sad I am fabricating a round bandsaw box. I have a Powermatic 14" bandsaw and need to cut a 1/4" face from face and back of a 6" circular piece of hard wood. Every time I try to do this, the piece spins out of control and is thrown off the table. Any suggestions ? |

Ash sounds like he is trying to cut it while it is standing on edge or round and as soon as the blade hits is it spins. At least that is what it sounds like to me.

Ron, Thats what I was thinking, if it is well there are ways to do it. But the simplest answer is scrap it cut it to depth and then cut the 6 inch circle. If that isn't an option, the get a V Clamp . The safest way , of course a V clamp for 6" can be a bit costly. Another way , flat clamp the sides in a drill vise , mount the vise on a right angle , Cut down to the vise cross cut to the cut and remove the first cut , rotate , reclamp make another cut. Then we can get fancy . From there. Personally , I would bench vise clamp , get my hand saw ....... The speed the blade is moving you need a solid clamping point, with out being clamped it is an accident waiting to happen. Dad always told me accidents are caused .. they don't just happen. Ash |

Why not just clamp the circular piece to a square block and then take it to the bandsaw. You now have your stability,,it won't spin,,,and you can cut it any way you like. I've done this many times myself. Then again,,maybe I'm not understanding the actual problem accurately. |

Mark your right. The whole point is clamping to lock the piece solid. It is our safety standard to Vee lock rounds for any operation so I go right there . 30 years of habit . Ash |

Hi, Can you tack the six inch piece to another board before you cut? I do this often when doing small projects. Sharon |

If you "tack" it...you will cut thru with your blade.....! Maybe some hot glue?
