Makes sense, you can buy ceramic rods in a sharpening system for a lot of money....I might have to try this sometime..looks like a fine hone is what is really happening, and we all know how important that is. thanks for the link Lynn.

My Dad sharpened his pocket knife on the black and white pages of the Sears and Roebuck catalog during his visits to the toilet.

I saw a bartender use a the bottom of a coffee cup to sharpen his knife many years ago. Bartenders cut a Lot of fruit for drinks, mostly limes and oranges. I tried it and liked it, but now I have a red DMT diamond block in the kitchen, so I don't have to hurry the coffee. The technique the bartender used was different, probably faster. He positioned the knife all the way across the two 'rims' of the bottom and used a circular motion, working from heel to tip. |

I bought several serving platters from a store which sold Chinese kitchen goods (and food). The unglazed rim under the platters is the right stone for all my cleavers. |
