| | You know you miss carving when - - - you lurk every woodcarving discussion board you can find
- you find yourself fondling wooden furniture
- you volunteer to clean somebody else's shop
- you stare out the window watching a neighbour split firewood
- you offer to sharpen the neighbour's axe
- you run across the road and sweep up the woodchips from the neighbour splitting his firewood
- you stare at the lady working in the jewellery store while she works on an engraving
- you find yourself tracing patterns in the daycare sandbox
- you make ice cream sculptures at your grandson's birthday party
- you use your grandson's building blocks more than he does |

| | Re: You know you miss carving when - Whitecree......you still laid up son? Well, I am sorry to hear that, cause I know how frustrating it can be. At least it is making you think and your points are spot on......I do most of those even when I'm able to carve! We must have the carving bug bad, eh!
An idea that works for me...... use the time to plan your next carving, research at the library, pour over books, magazines, and web sites, then draw out ideas, think out the whole carving, and search for the perfect piece of wood while you walk around.
Have patience my friend, this too shall pass. In the mean time, have a Merry Christmas!

| | Re: You know you miss carving when - Whitecree,
I know it's not the same, but maybe sculpting clay or carving something soft like soap or wax might ease your withdrawal. In the meantime, draw patterns for the millions of ideas that are popping in your head. Even if whatever you do--be it sculpting, or drawing--isn't that great in your eyes, at least you'll have the reminders of the ideas that you came up with. Then when you able to carve wood, you'll have the studies that you created while recouperating. Good luck! |

| | Re: You know you miss carving when - Thanks, gang. I knew I could count on you for a little moral support.
I could carve something right now, but I'd pay a stiff price later. I tried for about 5 minutes a couple days ago and next day the ache and stiffness came back full force.
Doc says "it will take as long as it takes. Tendon damage is slow to heal."
Meanwhile, I have about a gig and a half of storage of sketches and designs just waiting for me.
(sigh)

| | Re: You know you miss carving when - Whitecree,
if it were possible, i'd trade the use of my able bodied loitering arm for the experience it would receive, but you might wind up having to heal the other arm from stray cuts and scrapes upon return due to inexperience in the borrowed arm..
if you catch my drift....
i got 3 , five gallon buckets of half started carvings, ill finish one day, but not today

| | Re: You know you miss carving when - Sounds like me. 3 or 4 - maybe 5 - large boxes of projects in any stage from roughed out to almost done to just plain aborted. Plus a few more just sort of sitting on the floor, a shelf, under a chair.
