LOL Alice.. funny you should say that one. I had to talk hubby into coming down to the barn to get the propane heater going so we could bandsaw out some mice and an Eagle. The temps were 15* in the barn. I was smart and had my long johns and extra socks on. We both had to call it quits when our fingers got to cold to be playing with the saw.

You know your addicted to carving when all the surfaces in the house have stumps/sticks/blocks of wood on them..ready to be carved.

You know your addicted to WCI's forum when you bypass the bathroom early in the morning to see who's up and who's got new projects done at the WCI's forum. LOL

Gilly, we don't have much here for native wood. Depends on the area but we have pine, types of cedar, Manzanita, and Acacia (beautiful). Manzanita is really pretty wood too but hard to get it without cracks or holes. Joshua Trees are mostly stringy fiber once dry. The Yucca stalks are good for cane and walking sticks but thats about all I think. Oh, we have the Desert Willow also. Haven't tried that yet.

When you climb three sections of scaffold with three chainsaws and a box of tools. Then look down at the miniture world below you when you are doing a tree sculpture and ask yourself "What the hell am I doing up here?

When your team is in the Super Bowl and you carve during the commercials to calm down and you could care less exactly what it is you are carving.

You know you're addicted to carving when you drive a straight chisel a 1/2 " into your thigh, stop, stitch it with fly tying thread and go back to carving!!!!!

You know you are addicted to carving when you spend time at work looking at wood pallets instead of doing the job you are being paid for.

you throw away stuff in your luggage before a trip home just to stuff pieces of wood in there that will fit. And, you wish you had more room to bring the pile you had accummulated, but it just wouldn't go so you had to leave it outside the room in a nice neat little pile for someone else to maybe find and carve....

You know you're addicted to carving when you go to Hawaii and have to ship a box of wood home because there isn't any room in your suitcase. I had to try KOA when I was over there, and some teak and some other kind of wood that was so splintery I couldn't do anything with it.
