Default You just got to go see this....

I was in Joplin Missouri this past week so I took a short trip to Jay OK to meet and see Lynn Doughty and his wife Judy. All I can say is wow!

You have to see Lynn's gallery and his shop. His work is amazing in person! His gallery has dozens of carvings and 4 or so very complex scenes that are extremely complicated. When you have time to look at his work you will be able to see the subtle details that he uses to bring out the carving. For example, the preacher being robbed at gun point, his hands in the air, look down at his feet and you will see the poker cards that fell out of his bible! Really funny stuff. Lynn lives just south of I-44 near Jay OK and is only a block or so off the highway. Really easy to find.

Lynn, thank you very much for taking the time to let Kathy and I see your work and your shop. I also really appreciated the pointers that you gave me. I can't wait to get back and visit with you again some time.

Any of you traveling through that part of Oklahoma need to take the time to see Lynn's work first hand.

Greg

Greg,
Looks like a good time was had by all. I'm sure you could spend a lot of time in the gallery as its the subtle details in Lynn's carvings that bring them to life. (...no I'm not saying Lynn is subtle )

BTW Lynn what is that interesting figure located under the table? I don't think I've seen him on the your site.

That's another figure of Magua called the "Renegade" I did a few years back before I got my digital camera. I'll take a photo of it and post it. Thanks for asking. Subtle? Who me?

Thanks for the post Greg....really enjoyed our visit.

Magua, he is an interesting character for sure! Of course the Last of the Mohicans was playing all weekend on TV so I had to watch. The funny thing about that is I received another Far Side book for fathers day and of course he had to do a cartoon of "The 2nd to the last of the Mohicans"

I haven't had the honor of visiting Lynn and his wife in Jay but have seen Lynn's scenes and carvings in person at the Tulsa Carving show. Hated to leave his area and could have spent the whole time there viewing his outstanding carvings. Can't say much more that hasn't been said already about Lynn's talents. But I agree, if you ever get the chance to meet Lynn and Judy and view his works, Do it, Well worth thr time.
IAt the same show, I also Had the honor of meeting carver^ and his wife and become good friends. That was the next day and again, spent a lot of time around Lynn's displays. Not only are the carvings outstand but the way he displays them, OUTSTANDING.
I can only pray that I can see his works again.
You have heard the addage that pictures don't do a subject justice. That is so true on Lynn's.
OH for got, Lynn and Judy has a cute dog also.

Okay you guys, if you think you're going to get something for all this verbage you're nuts. Oh, BTW, the Tulsa show has moved and is going to be held at the Union School 8th Grade Center at 6501 S. Garnett, Tulsa. July 13-14. Funny, I don't remember having an 8th Grade Center when I was in that class. Remember spending a fair amount of time in the Asst. Principals office but that place was kind of small and painful!

Lynn, I have been going to the Tulsa shows for many years and it appears they move locations about every three to four years. Not that I am complaining but from the first time I went, This is the 6th location.
Oh, I only want your continued help and maybe a cup of coffee when I get to visit you in Jay. Fair enough?
