Default Yippe for snow days - more carving time

Good morning WIMB,

It is snowing in Lansing, IL. The phone call came through at 5:00 this morning that my school was cancelled. Those are wonderful phone call no matter what time they come. I am sitting in my living room looking out at a blizzard enjoying the fact that I do not have to teach this today and I have all my lesson plans ready for Monday. Ooorah. I know that some of you retired guys get to do this every morning, but do let me revel in the freedom, I get a chance to know what it's like for you all every day

The beauty of the world as God makes it each day is awesome. I'm going to enjoy it so much I may not even go shovel.

M goal for the day is to get a picture of some kind on the Board. I have two options. I have one of a carving and I have a CD with 10-12 picture of a Junior High carving class I teach. I have found threads with instructions for a picture. Will those kinds of instructions include multiple pictures?

I also read, from 2005, about some folks having a tough time "resizing" pics. Haven't done much with online pics and sending. Will try today.

My wife Jan is sitting next to me. She says to let her know when I am going to try so either she goes in the other room or I do. She says no such thing as a stupid computer, but those words come out of my mouth once in a while when I'm working on one.

John I think you are getting what is left over from our blizzard yesterday. I myself am getting pretty sick of snow and ice. Just take your time resizing and downloading your pictures. You can download 4 at a time if I remember right. Heck if I can do it anybody can. All I ask is describe your work somewhat so I will know what you are talking about.

John,
From my public school days and now my community college days, no one, I REPEAT NO ONE enjoys a snow day as much as the adults in a school. We didn't get much snow--not like Wichita where Ron is, or even 60 miles south, but it's a pretty look and not enough to cancel school for us. I've battled a cold all week that's moved into bronchitis so I finally stayed home today. Most of my co-workers have been avoiding me like the plague. But I've gotten lots of work done with my office doors shut.

Looks like a good weekend to get some laptop carving done--snow and football all Sunday afternoon and night. Perfect for carving!

I agree with your term "stupid computer." I can do lots with a computer, but have not mastered the photo issues. If I need something done with pictures at work, I just holler for a student!!

John, if you let me know about sizing photos on your computer I might be able to give you some assistance. I'm a long way from being a computer whiz, but have worked with photos quite a bit. First with Windows XP, and now with Vista. I like the Vista better after getting use to it. Learning curve at first though. Let me know. My email, woodduck@nb.sympatico.ca

I talked with Floyd Rhadigan (wood carver) this morning in Saline, MI. He said it was a blizzard. Sorry you guys, it is 65 degrees here in Georgia and the weather is fine for carving on the deck!

Hey John, enjoy your snow holiday, before I totally retired last year, I used to live in the Oregon High Country, where snow season started in October and sometimes did,nt stop snowing until June. But guess what now I live in good old Southern CAlifornia where folks here complain about cold weather when the tempetures reach 60%. Not to rub in to you, I enjoy carving all day long. Welcome aboard.

Hi Hugh,

Thanks for the offer on the photos. You know how it goes. Way too many programs and gadgets and buttons to push and screens full of everything. I'm just glad my kids aren't here to say, "Daaaad, that's not how it goes." I will hollar when I get stuck.

Thanks to you warm weather friends. I feel warmer already. Good to know there is hope for the freezer basket of the nation. I just bought a miniature daisy for a shut in friend, brings a hint of spring into the house.

Donna,

Thanks for the welcome. Say, how long do I get to consider myself a newbie? A whole year? A month? Or until of the moderator/admin folks beam in from their outer spaces and tel me to get off the welcome line? Hey, appreciate the work you all do out there to make this Board possible.

Donna, I to call in the troops - anyone under age 18 for my computer needs.

John
