John,
Newbie is mostly a state of mind. Seems to me that it has to do with length of time you've carved, now much you've carved, how much blood you've shed, how many carving tools you have, if you've carved long enough to figure out how to correct mistakes, how many different types of carvings you've undertaken, etc. If you only carve one thing a month, you might stay a newbie for a long time.

Regardless, you can post on any of the topics--don't have to stay on the "Welcome" topic--once you've been moderated and allowed to post. It's essentially a way to make sure that new posters are going to play nice and abide by the rules of this message board. It's a great place with hundreds of good people who have learned to love carving.

Enjoy your weekend!

Donna T
