Now, weez poor folk here, aint really got an out house yet. New fangled inventiuns. Round here it's the third tree on the left for the little girls room but that three pointed leave plant near the base isn't the one that ya want to use when yor done.
But our neighbor just over the hill owns the bank, proud man him. And he lets everyone in town know where he lives cause he has his junker car right out in the front yard jacked up on a complete matching set of brand new concrete blocks!
Yes sir he does...

| | Re: WV Ashby! Well, I hate to tell Susan she's wrong about that WV history, but she IS!
I'm Michigan born and raised, and even I know that there were TWO breeds of cattle developed in WV. One has the short legs on the right side and they graze clockwise;the other has the short legs on the left, and they graze counter-clockwise on the mountain side. Although these two breeds cross paths pretty regularly there has never been a recorded case of a natural cross-bred variant. The reason should be patently obvious to anyone who's familiar with cattle breeding habits.

| | Re: WV Ashby! Now Al. I didn't know that! My good momma told me that I wasn't suppost to watch them sort of things 'round the farm ... She told me I was to keep my eyes closed and just pretend it wasn't happenin'
Funny, she told me the same thing the day I got married ???!
My Dad's first job was running propane tanks to the moonshiners down in the hollows of the WV mountains. His oldest brother owned the local welding shop and one of his 'side jobs' was buying extra propane in portable tanks that could be used for the stills.
Dad was only 14 or 15 (circa 1940) and the truck that he ran was old, rusted, no floor boards left and he had to use the hand brake to slow the thing down ... So he said ...
I asked him once if he wasn't afraid of not being able to stop going down one of those old coal roads in that truck. He said, Never! What he was afraid of was being mistaken as the revenuer ... He said that as soon as he got onto one of those roads he'd stick his head out the window. Which wasn't hard because the truck had no glass left. And scream at the top of his lungs ....
"Elkin's Welding Company!"
Luckily the couple of times he got shot at the moonshiners were too drunk to aim...

| | Re: WV Ashby! My Great grandpappy on my mother side was from West Virginny. But we don't tell people that. It is obvious why!
Anyways the same all over Irish, Didn't have indoor plumbing till 1964. Our entertainment is watching Mom flush the old Furgeson. She would stand ther neart every night and just push that handle down. Of course it kept me and my brother busy going to the stream fletching bukets of water to pour in the tank.
We were high society, whe had two two holers. One hisn and one herns. the herns watch a little closer to the back door. Got in to trouble on clod night cuase I only went as far as the herns one. Reason I got caught was the Old Man was in there one night.
Kind of like some of them ridge runn'in Arkansasar with the leaf eh Irish? But had one tell me once he had to go to the doctor once cause he used the wrong leaf. Got a rash down there and the doctor asked him how he got it and he showed that doctor the leaves he be us'in and it was poison ivy! |
