How would anybody,Carvers, Painters, Pyrographers any Artist portrait "The Beauty of Silence"?? Everyday when I walk through the Woods but special today, I had to stand still and listen to the Silence, not even a song through the Pines could be heard no Birds in this time of the year either, sooooo how would you portrait this? I kept thinking how I could carve this? Even my wildest imagination could not come up with anything .
Come on people help me out here , somebody else listening to Silence???

Alice,
How about a very detailed relief carving of several trees with no leaves on them, or maybe a falling leave or two....half way to the ground or a straggler hanging on to the tip of a branchlet on an otherwise naked tree....perhaps with snow covered ground and a solitary set of animal tracks starting in the foreground and fading away into the distance in the empty woods.

That a girl SusieQ! I couldn't have said it better myself. When I was a kid growing up in the Green Mountain of Vermont my mother use to take us kids out in the winter and after she got us quieted down she'd ask us to listen to the silence... then ask us what we heard. I never caught on to what she was talking about until I built my own cabin in the Smokies many years later...the sounds of silence! You're not crazy Alice.... the mountains, the forests, the woods, they do talk to you! All we have to do is listen!

"The mountains, rivers, earth, grasses, trees, and forests are always emanating a subtle, precious light, day and night, always emanating a subtle, precious sound, demonstrating and expounding to all people the unsurpassed ultimate truth. - Yuan-Sou"

Susieg and Eddy ,thank you it sounds like you know what I am talking about, yesterday the snowflakes were dancing in the sky too because there was no wind ,and instead of coming straight down or blowing, just beautiful.
I don't know what I do if I ever had to move and had to listen to the noise of people. The idea of doing a relief of this sounds o.k.Susieg one has to watch so it won't look like death I must think about it ,thanks for the idea.
Eddy ,this is a beautiful saying you wrote but there was not even a sound because everything is covered up and frozen over. Kenny ,to each there own right? I still would not trade lol

How about carving a head with big earplugs and a huge smile on his face?

A big horned owl flying so graciously through the woods. You can see him, but not a sound is heard.

Alice...

Remember this one by Robert Frost?

Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the villiage though:
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must tink it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake
To aks if there is some mistake.
The only other sound's the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark and eep.
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

The key words here being "the only other sounds's the sweep of easy wind and downy flake!"

Dont know how to answer that but I have been there and you are right in the woods with snow everywhere no wind nothing just the sounds of silence. Hey for inspiration put on the ear phones and listen to Simon and Garfunkle's "The sound of Silence" great tune should give you lots of inspiration
