| | Woodcarvers Roundup questions I found a woodcarvers roundup that is actually close enough for me to attend, and I would like to ask those who attend these what they enjoyed most about them, how I should prepare, and what they got out of going.
This one is in Florida, and sounds like a lot of fun with some pretty impressive class instructors....maybe some of you are going, or know of the teachers. They seem to come from all over the place.
Plus, it's at a camp ground, with manatees, and I do like to camp!
This is the link to the roundup:
ttp://www.geocities.com/podea_2000/
and it is listed in the event calendar section of this web site.
Comments are welcome, as I've never gone to anything like this, and have wanted to take classes.

| | Re: Woodcarvers Roundup questions wood-whittler,
Thanks for the link. That one looks inviting as well. This might become a regular thing if I get to go to one. I'm really hoping for the one in Florida right now, as the fishing, water, and camping will get my husband to come with me.
He's not a woodcarver. His sculptures are usually in welded scrap metal and he also paints in acrylics and watercolors. He may enjoy bringing some paints along on the trip with his fishing rod.
Carolina Carver, Thanks for that tip. I will do that. I also would like to take under Peter Benson. I've had trouble teaching myself how to carve acanthus leaves, and he's got that on his agenda.

| | Re: Woodcarvers Roundup questions Thor here's another website, its at Creed Colorado, it may be a little far for you, but there also is camping fishing and a lot of history there, the classes are held in a underground fire station, they have all type of classes also,
I have camped there and had a great time, its July 6th, the weather is generally mild since up high in the mountains.

| | Re: Woodcarvers Roundup questions If you have the chance the GOW-Gathering Of Woodcarvers is one whole week of carving classes and everything inbetween! Floyd was there this year and plans to be there next year along with a list of fantastic carvers and teachers. The information for 2006 isn't up yet but the idea is pretty much the same. You can read about it here... http://www.thecarvingshop.com/gow_2005.htm
