| | Wood Spirit /Green men I have heard the lore of what a wood spirit is. My question is what is the difference between a wood spirit and a green man? Is the green man a spirit in his stealth mode? Any comments appreciated.

| | Re: Wood Spirit /Green men Both the Green Man and Woodspirit are based on the same lore, the nature guardian. The biggest difference is how they are represented.
The green man is often shown with leaves or vegetation as hair or part of their faces while the woodspirit is shown with wild hair that sometimes blends into the bark of trees and vegetation.
The link above is a good source and if you follow the woodwose link as well you will find how the two are connected.

| | Re: Wood Spirit /Green men Green men fall into one of several groups, depending of the nature of the face. They have been carved for 100,s of years from big to small and are part of the walls and ceilings of some of the largest churches in Europe. They can be a face looking out throught leaves, have hair replaced by leaves, and even have vines of leaves growing out of the nose and mouth. There are a few more groups also. There is a great book on the subject I bought. In fact, one of our message board members is one of the co-authors. |

| | Re: Wood Spirit /Green men It's been suggested that the Wood Spirit is an 'evolved' Green Man. Looking through the architecture of Europe we can see the Green Man become more human looking, progressing from a face of the leaves, to a face with leaves as facial hair, to a face in leaves. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
