I have been called upon to fund a trip to London this winter for my daughter and her chaperon (my wife, her mother) to an international event that my daughter is taking part in. Since I was not invited along (It's a "girls" thing) I got to thinking that maybe they should do a little shopping on my behalf while they are there. Anyone know of a carving-wood dealer and or tool supplier in London proper that I could be in contact with prior to their actual visit in order to arrange the acquisition of maybe a tool or two or a few board feet of special wood to put with their stowed luggage for dear old dad? Thanks in advance, Russ |

If I were in your position....hmmmm, I would try to get hold of a bit of English oak. or some true Linden wood like Doris uses. The dollar is kind of ill for exchange from what I understand, so I wouldn't expect any great deals, but rather some hard-to-find treats for you since you can't go along. I would have no idea where to send them once they get there. There may be some Brits on here that can offer a source? Good luck with that. Thor |

For tools you could try Buck and Ryan Buck & Ryan - Tool Specialists they are fairly central( London WC1 4DA). When you know when and where they are staying you can get more or less any wood delivered direct. Try S. L. Hardwoods for starters. Hope this helps Peter Connor |

Thank you for the addresses Peter. Since the trip for both of them will be in the multiple thousands of $ I guess they could bring poor ol' dad back a 20oz Robert Sorby lignum vitae mallet...and that's just the first thing that caught my eye! Excuse me, I have a list to make! :-) Russ |

Glad the addresses were of some use. You could also look at the John Boddy's website. Good for tools as well as timber. I'm off to France during September so will be out of reach of WCI. But if I can help at all when I get back just holler. Cheers Peter |
