Default Why It Might Be A Good Idea To Have A Few Beers Before Carving!

I ran across this quote from "C heers" while surfing this morning and thought it might be the secret to faster and better carving!!

"Well you see, Norm, it's like this . . . A herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo. And when the heard is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first . This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members.
In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Now, as we know, excessive intake of alcohol kills brain cells. But naturally, it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine.

And that, Norm, is why you always feel smarter after a few beers."

Could this be the secret to better woodcarvings we've all been looking for?? I have to admit that I would consider going to a lot more shows and maybe even take in a few seminars if they served beer!

Boy, Lynn, this is what I need right now. First they said coffee would kill ya, then wine will mess you up, then a couple years ago I posted a question about the good life and havin a beer while I whittled. Well, coffee won't kill ya, wine may be good for you, and did I catch a load of grief for even thinking about putting a beer in one hand a knife in the other. I go to the doctor and he says I have sugar. He also says no more real coffee, and no more beer....And finally you find the logical answer to the question of beer drinking...I needed that logic several years ago. Thanks for the chuckle.

Tom....Actually, it could probably be argued that the more beer you drink before carving the safer it is as, for me anyway, after I've had several I start thinking about "other" things!!

Vicki......I didn't even think of that! Maybe if I offered the Judges a few brews just before I take my pieces up to the front table my ribbon count would improve???

At 75, I find my brain cells are dieing off fast enough without any outside help Lynn! And, my reprodutive ability seems (be very clear, I'm speaking here about brain cells) to have slowed down to a crawl.
But, with that said, I'll give your suggestion a fair trial period, say a year, and will post the results in March of '09.
Thanks for the tip.

I will drink a toast to this idea....as long as I can substitute Irish whiskey for the beer. The Victorians believed Santa to be a bit of a rounder anyhow and he was thought to hit every pub along the way. Some of my Father Christmas figures certainly have a "lit" look to them. !
