| | Why I didn't carve today I happen to have another hobby beside carving so I gave it a try today. Here's the result. Yes it's a carp, and no, we don't eat them, but if they're gonna swim in my back yard then I'm gonna have some fun catchin them.

| | Re: Why I didn't carve today Holy Carp! Biggin!
Do they fight. Every once in a while I hook one around here. They don't fight at all. It is like you snagged an old tree.
Looks like fun. I envy you with a big wet back yard like that.

| | Re: Why I didn't carve today Eat your heart out guys, these things are just a whole lot of fun, the largest I've caught is 27 lbs. my son got a 30 pounder last year and there's bigger than that, maybe this year. No sir, ain't no way I'm gonna eat 'em, just carefully remove the barbless hook and put them back. By the way, open invitation to anyone that's passing this way.

| | Re: Why I didn't carve today Hey Cliff, I live on a big river too. It's got lots of carp too. And they are fun to catch. I've lived here for 36 years and have caught more than my share of the carp. For years everyone was jealous of the huge tomato plants and tomatos that I grew. I never told the secret. I planted each plant on top of a carp that I had buried. One year when I was much younger I had a smoker and tried to smoke carp. Since I prepared the carp before the company came no one new that is was carp. They all loved it. Of course before dinner we drank a keg of beer.
But carp fishin instead of carvin...that might be goin too far.

| | Re: Why I didn't carve today TomH I've smoked a lot of carp and drank a lot of beer as well but that was a lot of years ago, now mamma and I have what's called a rod pod, we lay our rods in it and when you get a hit an alarm goes off and you then get off yer butt and go fight the fish. I've been trying some new methods this year so far and finally clicked with one today. Now I can sit and carve while I wait for Mr. carp to come along. The way I see it, I have the best of both worlds, and lovin it.
