Default Well, we went fishing?????

On the "Works in Progress" thread I said I was goin' fishin' today and not gonna carve. Well we did.

Put the boat in for the year's first outing and headed out on Lake Superior for a full day of dragging lures. Set out 4 skiis and two downriggers in 60 to 80 feet of water with 60 foot lines. All in all it was a great day with wife, Karen, and Neighbor Fran. His wife couldn't go because of a doctor's appointment, but three of us were enough to set out enough lures to rattle a tank.

Had three good solid trips but lost the critters before we could net them, then hit some 40 foot shoals in 60 foot water and lost a canonball sinker and only one lure.

Guess that's why they call it fishing and not catching!

Anyway even though we didn't catch anything we had a great day on the water.....a nice cool north west wind, waves less than a foot and a beautiful blue sky over the lake.

And, "The good thing about fishing is that even if you don't catch anything, you've still managed to waste the whole day!" I like that concept.

Sounds like a great day to me! Use to do a lot of fishing, went to Canada summer and winter. BUT, since I've retired, I just can't find the time.:>(

" 40 foot shoals in 60 foot water "

Sorta' sounds more dangerous than fun but I'm sure glad you enjoyed it.

Al, This may sound familiar to you. I think it was probably the summer of 1968, I fished the Menominee River and also Hamilton Lake. Ever heard of either one?

Sure have, Bob....I was born and raised in Iron Mountain, and the Menominee River is just west of town. Fished it and canoed it regularly. My cousin had a place on Hamilton Lakes for a while, too. Boy that was a ways back, but some great times spent in that area!

Nancy, still had lots of water between us and the bottom, but sure did tie up the lines! Tripped three of our skiis and one downrigger line snapped off at the bottom. Got some repairs to do now...hehehe. Still, all in all, a great day!

We headed out fishing too. We were fishing for some sunfish for supper. I managed to catch two crappie along with some sunfish. We were on a little creek that connects two lakes Villard lake and Amelia lake by Villard Mn.

I took a picture of the black crappie thinking it would be a good one for the reference forum..but they didnt turn out nice enough. Oh well..they tasted good.

Fishing is just good for the soul..

There is nothing so satisfying as just plain messing about in boats.

Some deep thinker from history said that. I do believe he was on to something. Glad you had fun!

Used to be a fishing news reporter on radio here in Springfield, MO that always signed off his fishing report with "If you're too busy to go fishing, you're too busy!!" I always thought he was exactly right, even though I was too busy to go fishing.
