Default WCI Survey

Hey BobD,

A suggestion, how about offering an opportunity for your readers to fill out the Reader's Survey on-line. I realize you probably can't do it for this issue, but in the future...

I'm going to photo copy it and send it in (not about to cut up the magazine!!) but it would be so much easier to be able to do it on line.

just a thought.

It's in the works for our next survey...but we just couldn't work the bugs out for this one. Plus the issue was coming out at the same time as the Alan's Attic e-mail...

If you want, you can e-mail me your responses at duncan@foxchapelpublishing.com

I can pass it on from there!

Bob, glad to hear that the survey will be on line in the future. I tried scanning mine and answering on the computer; but, the program I use distorted the location of the items and I could not follow it.

I had an aversion to tearing up my magazine and then noticed two things. First, other WCI issues that had articles of high interest to me were bent, folded and mutilated (very well used). Second there was only advertisements (or some such on the reverse of the survey); so, I gritted my teeth and tore it out.

I am curious as to how the number of responses is running. Generally, surveys have very small returns and I am curious if we woodcarvers are different.

Since I am writing about the survey, I do have a comment on the survey. Some of the questions were ambiguous. For instance we were to list types of carving we do and included was "power" but not "hand tools." Now, I don't do and can't imagine using power in chip carving; but, have used power for the others (including relief).

But, I am glad that WCI is making the effort to continue (and improve on) its excellence.

We left the survey a little vague on purpose...trying to generate a bit of discussion...

But we've gotten an enormous response...We had to move the responses from a traditional manila folder into one of the pleated folders--the stack is already more than 2-inches thick!

Well to be honest, I missed the survey page altogether ? geez, even missed a whole page of advertizement but I agree, to have the survey online would be a whole lot better, after the hassle to get a complete set of WCI, I am not about to cut them up! There are a number of things on the survey that are missing, one is the finish, I don't see Deft or lacquer there, unless I am wrong a lot of us use lacquer......not earth shattering but an observation, an observation from one that missed the page entiredly LOL

Bob- I would rather have the survey online so I can enlarge it enough to see it clearer. The reading machine I use I sometimes get a reflection off glossy paper. I also think like you it will take several trial runs to get the bugs worked out and surveys could be wide ranging. Thanks Ron
