Default way off topic

This has nothing to do with carving. But as my fax # is listed as a business I get ALOT of junk mailings,,,just like spam.I received a letter today (as well as many in the past I just tossed) about a "family" who because of the turmoil in the middle east had to flee and left their 36 million in their local bank. Since they have no $ and their lawyer fees are climbing in an effort to collect their $.My help would be greatly rewarded in a share of their wealth.Don't know if you saw the 6o min, 20/20 etc. reports on how this is a billion dollar industry to some 3rd world countries, and how a Senator I believe fell for it and lost thousands....DON"T LET THIS BE YOU..Obviously it's a scam.I haven't heard back from the Feds yet (the shows encourage you to call in so they can track these guys) They use faxes and e-mails, SO BEWARE!

They're called Nigerian Scams because most originate from Nigeria where the laws have let them get away with it in the past. I've got maybe hundreds of these in the past few years...different stories but very similar. I got one claiming to be from Korea once; had a friend trace it and it traced to Nigeria.
If it seems too good to be true...well, you know the rest or will before long!

To add to Mark's heads up, I recieved a letter from a Citibank credit card company asking questions about the card account.
The strange thing was, and still is, I don't have a Citibank credit card. Never will. Turned it over to the local master for investigation.

Once a year I get a letter from the U.S. Government saying that I'd better payup or else!! I'm sure this is some sort of scam. Does this happen to any of you??

OH! Almost forgot....I get one from the State of Oklahoma too. And not to forget Delaware County.

Ya know Lynn, that "one" might be a little on the legit side. To me, I would believe in the legitamacy if the American people were allowed to vote on the regulation. After all, this is our country, and they do still work for us if we call them to task.

Scammers are out to make a quick easy dollar off of you....they disquise their mail or email or fax as official government documents and tax bills, even as phone bills. I live in a state with a huge elderly population and these folks don't ususally question a utility bill, so some low life started sending fake bills out and the good people just paid what they thought they owed. It was very convincing.

You have to be so careful these days. We got a phishing email supposedly from our bank but I know for a fact that Banks NEVER ask you to verify account numbers or social security numbers by email. Nor will they call you for that info. They might send you a letter asking you to come in and fill out a form. The odd part of that bank email was that we had just opened an account with them that week, which makes me believe that there might be someone on the inside behind this.

We have had the Nigerian email several times in a couple of variations. You would think people would know better but a lot of folks fall for this crap. I have become very suspicious of everything these days.....sad.
