| | Veterans Day A couple of things here...thanks to all the personnel currently serving in our Armed Forces...do not, repeat! Do Not believe the garbage the news media and some politicians are putting out.....We are behind you, we appreciate you and some of us have a clue what you are going thru. God Bless you all. The second part of this message has to do with an email I received from "www.military.com it had a note that they are trying to get veterans to wear their medals on the 11th.....they are trying to start a tradition, they are talking about ex as well as current personnel in uniform. I suppose it is a good thing, but would make me feel funny running around with my medals hanging on my shirt lol. I do have some mini ribbons however that I put on my ships logo hat....I will wear that. I think its a good idea.........what do you think? " Dave |

| | Re: Veterans Day I had a weird, almost spooky thing happen. Ship's Placques are presentation pieces that are given to retiring officers and visiting dignitaries. Most ships will only have a very few of these ever made or presented. Being an Auctioneer, everything shows up sooner or later at an Auction, but I had never had a single one of these show up in my Auction from any ship.
Recently a woman walked in with one, the first one ever, in 12 years of weekly Auctions. It was from the USS TINOSA, SSN606...the only ship I ever served on. How weird is that? Gave me goose bumps! I wasn't crazy about the ship, or Submarines in general, but I figured if it found me I had to have it. After telling her the story she said, "Well, I want $10 for it." It hangs on my wall now. Out of thousands of ships in the Navy, past and present, with maybe 2 to 20 placques per ship (very few on smaller ships like subs) this placque found me.
I figure the first person who walks in the door and says, "Hey! That's the ship I was on!" gets it for $10.

| | Re: Veterans Day Yep as Dave stated, a lot of us are 100% behind our troops. I may not agree 100% on being there as there were other ways to have taken ![001[1]3424](http://www.woodcarvingillustrated.com/forum/images/smilies/001[1]3424.gif) damn out but since we are there, Full speed ahead troop. The alternatives are not good if we do not succeed. Spain and France are a good indicater of what will happen here.
Now on to a litghter matter, While talking with Vicki Bishop at the Bishop class, the conversation turned to was I in the service and said I served in Nam. Vicki said that Phil had also in 67-68 which I was also and I said I was a crewchief and door gunner on Helicptors and well, Phil was also, then I said what outfit, well, Phil and I were in the 1st Air Cav and just companies apart. Small world.

| | Re: Veterans Day Dave,
I think it's a good idea. I've seen some of the men wearing medals on their hats--I didn't know what to make of it since I never saw it being done before except for veterans wearing them on their veterans service uniforms when they were in parades, or at a veterans related function. I bet you'll get a lot of questions--what's this and what's that and what service were you in, and where were you and when, etc. But, if there is more respect and consideration of the people who have served, so be it.
BTW--To you and all of the veterans who served and are a serving our great country-- THANK YOU! |

| | Re: Veterans Day Well said Dave. I also thank all our vets. I did my time in Nam in 68-69 and was proud to serve. I have one of our medics in Iraq now on his second tour over there. He is in the heart of the fighting. He too has a wife and kids here at home. His name is Mike. Mike was on the original assult on Bagdad, and when he got home he presented me with the American Flag that he flew on his vehicle as they entered the city. I display that proudly in my home. If you want to adopt a soldier today and send an email of thanks his email address is wadevildoc@earthlink.net . He does get his emails and does read them.
