| | What I've been busy with Hit there,
I haven't been able to carve or participate in the forum as much as I like to lately, because of building my new house.
I thought if you have an interest, you might like to see the progress. It's is pictured in a snapfish.com album, and I've put the link below.
It will have a lot of carvings incorporated into the inside and outside, but as I sit here now, I'm not covered in sawdust, but rather paint...
Lots to do.
Oh, I designed the house, and I'm having a builder help organize the crews to get it to a stage where my husband and I can take over the finishing parts.

| | Re: What I've been busy with Wow! That's quite a project and I'm glad that you have finally dug into it head over heel since that's the only way you're gonna get r done. Was wondering where you've been and miss your postings but I know how a project can tie you down so drop by when you can.
Is all that open space around the house gonna be a big ole wrap around porch? Hope so because that'll be a great place to sit on a stump and carve with the hound dog. |

| | Re: What I've been busy with I dunno, Thor........... A real carver would have had a crane drop an 18' thick, 36' long, 24' wide slab of walnut on the site and he'd have gotten busy with a chisel and mallet!
Can't wait to see what the end result will be. Great ideas you have there.

| | Re: What I've been busy with Hi all,
Dave, you know how involved building projects are. Do you recognize the plans from countryplans.com? At least they were before I changed them to suit me a lot.
Pierre, I want you to post pictures of your house if that is the case where you come from... Maybe I'll work up to carving it all out of one block someday, but this is hard enough....
BBerry, come on down when the weather is better...January won't happen for the gathering here..too cold, but I'll post when our next Woodcarvers Gathering will be. Probably in March. Good to hear from you.
Hi Bob, I've been following your carving projects. You could have carved a house by now with all you've been doing.
Al, thanks, but the parrot is Quida, and she carves wood herself, and fingers and ears and noses and anything else that gets within reach of that beak.

| | Re: What I've been busy with Hey Thor - that looks to be a wonderful cozy new home you're building there. Congratulations and my my sympathies all at once. ;-) I have been up to my eyeballs in house rennovations (replaced all windows, repairs & painting of exterior, replacing carpeted flooring with all new hardwood, adding insulation, etc.) since Sept and have not been able to get ANY carving done. <sigh> And the sad thing is . . . I wasn't doing this work. Only researching and managing contractors. Can't understand how the DIYers ever git r all done.
Then, on top of that I started a new job in November. But all this change is for the better. I am really hoping that I can get back to getting my garage converted to a shop, get my sharpening station set up, and finally . . . get back to some actual carving!!! :-)
I know you must be feeling the same . . . but on an even greater scale!

| | Re: What I've been busy with Thanks so much Mottles. That is a really nice perception of what I'm doing. This house is going to be a tremendous personal expression for both myself and my husband who is also an aritst.
Hi Chuck T!
I have done renovation projects and also, long ago, built an entire "hippy house" with scavenged materials. This house is a breeze compared to both of those projects so far.
This time, I have crews coming in and doing the work from my design. I even have a 6 foot 6 inch tall builder who puts his hands on his hips and defends my quirks as an artist whenever I wish I were taller.
I had a "move that bus" moment yesterday when the framing crew removed the white work trailer out of the way and I got to see the house without that obstruction since it began.
The carvings are coming along, and I'm still working on all of the details that I'm personally doing, but we're limited as far as time (bank loan deadlines) and honestly, I'm kind of tired of living in an airstream and a chicken house after more than a year now. I hope to move in by the end of February.
I added more pictures on the site if you want to see them. http://www2.snapfish.com/share/p=244101197321181693/l=333239845/g=85820999/otsc=SYE/otsi=SALB
