Default Turkeys?? Here in Bessemer?

Just caught these guys out in the back yard...they came through about 15 feet from the window at a dead run and by the time I got the camera they were in the next lot.....still got a "proof shot". Never in the 37 years we/ve been here have we had turkeys around here. last week eagles (normal) and this week turkeys. NOT normal.

There were about 9 of them, but only caught these four on the dig.

Nice looking birds! We have a group of about 30 of them around here. Its nice to see them back in these woods. I can see why they were running.. Turkey Day is just around the corner. LOL You musta looked hungry to them.

Actually those birds closely resemble the rare and endangered "Long Legged Wisconsin Sparrow". They're so hardy they migrate north by foot. Hope there are no small children or pets outside as they have been known to be aggressive.

Thanks for that info flyfisher. We seem to be getting a lot of non-native invasive species from Wisconsin, lately.

We've also had some of the right and left walking deer come in from the hills just across the border. The left walking ones have the left legs a bit shorter than the right and they live on hill sides and only walk in a counter clockwise direction. The right walking ones are similar but have shorter right legs and only walk in a clockwise direction. Fortunately these deer are only found on some of the large round hills. Except they can also be found in some of the larger potholes, but walk in reverse directions in these. The right walking ones there go only counter clocwise, etc.

You'd think that eventually these two sub-species would mate and even things out, but as fate would have it, they only ever meet face to face and the difference in the short leg side makes it impossible for them to breed.

The DNR is nor trying to figure out how to sell two (actually three) licenses for these different types of deer. Three being the standard "equal legged white tails". Maybe for right and left handed shooters???

You get any of the "up hill" or "downhill" deer yet?
