Default Trygg Carving Values

I have been looking around the net for some Trygg carvings. I found a Hobo and also a Golfer.

Does anyone have an idea on the street value for these items?

There seems to be such a varied price range between antique stores, ebay, etc. I have seen Tryggs go for anywhere from $100-$300

K,
Their pricing took a big jump when WCI wrote an article and gave $400 as a typical price on Ebay.

Tryggs were made in many sizes; I have seen them 3 - 20 inches in height.

Here are some guestimates:
6" $30 - $125 depending on age, condition, and subject
(exceptional carvings to $300)

10-12" - $135 - $450

multiple figures on the same base: $250 - $475
(I have one with 4 figures on one base.)

Single figure with accessories (boat-fishing pole, etc) $300 - $400

This is my experience collecting on ebay; there are rare situations where Tryggs may still be purchased on Ebay for $9.99 - $30.

If I were bidding on a nice 12 inch Trygg, my high bid would need to be around $475 to be assured of getting it.

Thanks for your reply and guestimates...

I have been looking at Tryggs for a while and noticed the huge price swings. I think I fell into something luck as I ended up with 2 Tryggs for around $120

First L Trygg "Golfer" 1961 Sweden
Second CO Trygg "Hobo" 1961 Sweden

I am thinking I did ok on them.

The golfer appears to be a Left handed golfer with a Right handed grip...kind of interesting.

I have seen a few go pretty reasonable..but most are out of reason...at least for me. I wouldn't mind having one just to add a little diversity in the collection (?) lol I would like to start

Brian,
I have a copy of the hobo, but mine is more handsome.
I also have a golfer, done by C.O. Trygg.

Yours is the first Lars Trygg Golfer I have seen.

I think Lars Trygg had some mechanical issues with the golfer as he has a right handed grip for a left handed swing...

Maybe that is how they do it in Sweden.

Lars was never as accomplished a carver as his Father and older brother.
He did several carvings, but never seemed to progress beyond copying his brothers work.

Funny thing, because he produced fewer carvings, his work often commands a high price.

Well my Trygg Carvings finally arrived. I was quite suprised at the size of them. They are much larger than I had surmised, and quite blocky. The way they appeard in the pictures it was hard to tell they were 8" tall. I like the scale on them.

I am already learning a lot of little detail tricks by looking at the way different sections are carved.

PS I solved the mystery of the L Trygg golfer with bad mechanics. There was a drop of yellow glue at the junction of the hand / club. Someone had tried to repair the piece and put the club on the wrong side of the ball. I was able to remove the wad of glue, clean up the club and put it back the correct way.

Thanks for the update Brian. Also glad you cleared up the puzzle over the golfer mechanics. Next, we want pictures!

Hello,

I am looking up info because I saw a great Trygg piece today and was thinking of picking it up. It was 'signed' ...something.. Trygg, Montreal 1930 and was a carved figure of a hobo type character, with a number of blackened teeth, bent over working on what looks like a 'still' over a small fire, with a hose hooked up to a pot, with a hose being put into the hobos mug. Great details with no missing parts. About 8" square base and a 6'-8" size figure (hard to tell because he is bent over). Great movement and anticipation in the piece. I have never bought one or seen a Trygg before so can anyone tell me if they have seen one before? Or one similar to it? What is a price range for this seemingly different piece?

Thanks,

Wheeler in Brockville
