Well I just came down here to Fla. from Ky. for a weekend visit in Jacksonville so can I take credit for bringing you all the rain? We will be leaving here early Mon. morning to head back to Wildcat country. Will post more next week.

Susie,

Where are you at on the gulf coats? My Dad owns a home in Venice, and I was down there last month. Very dry while I was there.

Thanks,
Dan

Hi Dan,
we are about 60 or so miles north of Venice, maybe even more.....would have to look at a map. We are about 30 miles North of Clearwater, about 8 miles North of New Port Richey, in Pasco County. Hudson wasn't even on the map for many years while I lived here.

I was reading the morning paper before I went to work this morning and I see some guys down in St. Pete caught a huge bull shark off their dock last night. That is the trouble with Florida. Whether it is fresh or salt water, there are things in that water who can eat you if they want to. I never go in anything but a swiming pool anymore and I cringe when I remembe how as a teenager, I used to go swimming at the "rock pits" and also in the Gulf.

One more reason to move to Tennessee as soon as possible.

They say we got five inches of rain but there are three hot spots where the fires are..That is sooooo very hard to believe when it rained for 24 hours and they still have hot spots from the fire.. It seems that nothing could possibly be hot by now..

Hey Susie, My Dad was Captain of the life guard team at Pensacola Beach when I was growing up and my family spent every weekend when he had duty at the beach and I spent the whole time in the Gulf swimming and wasn't afraid of anything in it.. Now you wouldn't catch me going out there after all the shark attacks that have happened in the last few years.. Times have changed , I guess .. and all the " Jaws Series." lol

Hi Charlotte,
So glad you got a nice amount of rain. It is hard to believe it didn't drown the fire completely.......

I have lived in this area since 1966. I was never really comfortable with swiming in the Gulf. Mom had a friend who was a pilot and flew up and down the coast a lot. He told her that if people could see what was swimming just a few feet away from them, they would die of fright. From his vantage point in the air, he could see many sharks swimming with all the people in the water most anytime he flew.

Back then, gators were rare because they had nearly been wiped out through hunting. You hardly ever saw one, hardly ever heard of one around. Now because of all those years of protection, they are back! They are big and plentiful. Problem is now they have no where to live.
