Default Trolls!

Mike shared with me an article out of this month's issue of PC World, 'The 10 Biggest Web Annoyances', pages 142 - 148 and I fell on the floor laughing because I was totally annoyed!

Totally annoyed??? Yes, because Trolling was listed at only Number 5 with a 58% annoyance rating compared to the Number 1 of Dubious Privacy Policies at 69% ... I really think it should have been way higher.

Now I have encountered Trolls forever out here in cyberspace but never, until today, knew they had a name ... which I find terribly appropriate.

According to the article a Troll hides behind their pseudonymity alias to threadjack, deliberately bait, and intentionally disrupt forums and message boards. They're the ones that come in, start a thread that looks for all the world like a legitimate question then blasts everyone on the board that posts an idea ... The article goes on to label them as 'malicious interlopers'.

Many of the Trolls that I have known have often worked in tandem with Slammers. They are the people that come onto a forum to either bad mouth their commercial competition while hiding behind an alias or to turn a message board into to a free advertisement for their Favorite Commercial site. But, of course, since they are posting under aliases or using multiple membership names they are shamelessly self-promoting themselves.

Recently on a digital scrapping forum we watched a thread progress with three posters who:
1. downed the completion ruthlessly and falsely (the Troll)
2. praised one particular web store (the Slammer)
3. congratulated each other for making the right shopping choice

What everyone on the message board also knew was that all three posters were one person, the web store owner, talking to herself ... Toooo Much!!!

So, the reason I bring this up ... I am so grateful this morning for our Bill of Rights and the excellent guidance of our favorite Fearless Leader.

Got a pet peeve? If so, does he have a dog house and his own food bowl???

Susan

Mad at Ashby????? Why, has he been up to his Halloween tricks again???

No, Good Sir, not mad at anyone ... but very grateful that this message board as compared to my digiscrapping board runs under a well defined rules of conduct code called our Bill of Rights!

Susan

(I wondered why it was so crowded in my bath tub last night with all those toadettes.)

We've had a few of those over the years, haven't we! Trolls ..... good name for them! Too many Slammers too! Why can't folks just participate and play nice.

I suppose message boards just reflect life, and it takes all kind to make a world. BobD does a great job at keeping a lid on things!

Me thinks there are a few on this board that have way to much time on their hands.

Yep, there have been a few Troller on this one . However, Santa Goody and his Elf Ash can't be them for sure.

Hmmm, when I go fishing, I troll. Does that make me a troller. Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.
And then there is the Jabberwockey Hi Ho!

Yepper way to much time on me hands!!
