| | Tornadoes last night .... Last night some terrible tornadoes swept across the mid section of the U.S. - especially NE Oklahoma. Lynn - you OK? Then north Arkansas was hit. Paul?
Other parts of the central midwest were hit and, I think, 21 were killed. I sure hope the midwest carvers will check in and all be OK. |

| | Re: Tornadoes last night .... One to the north of us and another to the south but we just got some wind and not much else. Pity the poor folks in Picher, here the government is in the process of buying the town to relocate the people and now a tornado wipes half the place out. |

| | Re: Tornadoes last night .... Sorry, for the folks who have had such loss of life and home because of these tornado's. Glad Nancy G and Lynn and family are OK.
I lived in Texas as a small child and the memories/stories told by family members of tornado's are firmily implanted in my brain.

| | Re: Tornadoes last night .... Thanks Kathy - I'm north enough - up near St. Louis - that we had no problems, but the "other" Kathy on this board lives in SW Missouri and it was hit very hard. I wish we could hear from her. |

| | Re: Tornadoes last night .... Sorry to everyone affected by these tornadoes.. even here in Virginia were having tornadoes and just the other day we had a tornadoe warning right where i live in the shenandoah valley and i'll say again VALLEY as in surrounded by mountains which is very rare for us cause usually tornadoes won't last with the mountains so it surprised a lot of people here. Nature is a powerful thing..

| | Re: Tornadoes last night .... Nancy,
The storms were south of us by 40-60 miles. Our youngest daughter lived at Seneca MO for a number of years and she was going down today to help friends (who lost everything) try to salvage belongings and papers scattered over the area. Some of her friends' families had injuries. Two of our grandkids live down the road to the east, but all our family is safe this time. It's that time of the year where these storms are a once or twice a week event--even though it's been exceptionally cool and wet this spring.
Glad all our carving family is safe, too.

| | Re: Tornadoes last night .... Finally had time to get back on the list. We were lucky, got lot's of high wind and neighbors saw several funnel clouds spinning; but, none touched down. We have a mountain ridge above our house (west) and the winds/storms normally move in from the SW and W. Apparently the worse part of storms passes over us and hit in the hollow below.
I was down at the barn, but keeping an eye on the west ridge. The one bad aspect of this location is that there is almost no warning when storms do arrive. I was lucky and saw the black cloud moving in and told the others, "forget the cows, this looks bad" and it was. This storm was peculiar in that there was an eye, about like the center of a hurricane. We had winds and rain and then the sun came out with no wind and rain. My son called from Harrison, about 7 miles due east, to check on us because of the storm. He thought I was kidding when I told him it was calm and sunny......then the back wall hit, and it was far worse than the leading edge. Wind, rain, hail; but, no twisters!
Diana and I had planned a RV trip and are now in a campground in MO. But, I spent several hours yesterday morning rebuilding washes to get the 5th wheel out to hwy 412. We live a mile down a road that is listed as a County
Road; but, maintenance makes you wonder if they know this.
I had no idea how bad it was until talking to other members of our Good Sams Chapter here at the campground. All were surprised to find that we had gotten out. |
