Default Too many birds!

I discovered a Carolina wren had built a nest in my shop, right by my clamp rack. Granted my old garage is not air-tight, but she comes and goes thru a small gap beneath my side door! She had five babies, very cute, and they decided to learn to fly yesterday. I guess I never considered what it would be like with 7 birds flying around my small shop, especially 5 beginners. They were goofing around last night with the shop lights, knocking off saw dust everywhere, hanging upside down from the drill press, and other shennaigans. I was finally forced to move to the other end where I could sand in peace! I had hoped they would serve as models for a carving, but I think I may prefer a more sedentary, slow-moving model at this point. I hope they get a job or go to college soon! I would like to hang my clamps back up!

The parents are not aggressive, but the male makes a lot of noise. They have little fear of me or any of the equipment being used. They have actually startled me, hopping around the floor, through my legs, under the bench. I tried to give them a hint by leaving the big garage door open some today, but I guess they are not quite ready for the wide open spaces. I am not used to that much company when I carve. It's kinda ironical, but I have a roughout for the same kinda bird that I bought and started probably 15 years ago. Maybe I can finish it real quick and use it as a decoy!

Oh, how precious, Well, I couldn't sleep for pain in my side and leg so I came to the computer and it sure made me smile.. They are so cute and like Nancy, I am so jealous too.. I feed the birds and for the first time in fifty years I have a pair of red headed flickers eating there all day.. What a treat for me as well as for them...There is nothing sweeter than a little wren . Thank's for showing the pictures. Charlotte

Are you helping with the parent's education of the kids? BUY FOOD!

Parents and kids would probably enjoy a few small seeds (not sunflower or any big ones, but not thistle either). Buy a small bag next time you're in town. Oh, I wish I lived next door!!!

I had put some out when the mamma was sitting on the eggs, but she never touched it. The parents occasionally get a bite from the many feeders we have in the yard, but they seem to have the babies on a strict diet of bugs and worms. Georgia got tickled when one of the parents fed a huge bug to one youngster, almost as big as it, and the baby immediately opened wide, wanting more. They are flying pretty well, and will go to the parents when they come in (they appear anxious to get their share). I suspect they will be leaving soon and I can start cleaning up! I though I was real smart putting paper towels over stuff around the nest; they don't even go to the nest any more and have left little souvenirs every where else!
