Default Thinking of a camera

I have been thinking of buying one of these little cameras that connect to your computer. Can anyone enlighten me? I'm wondering if any of the WCI members have them and thought it would be great to talk to and see them at the same time and also show your work as it progresses. I'm on a phone line so don't even know if it would work. Lets hear about it folks, I'd appreciate it.

We've had one for ever since they first came out. Our oldest son lives in Bahrain, a little country just south of Kuwait. With that camera we can set here with our morning coffee and watch and talk to our Grandkids as they run around their kitchen telling us what they've been up to all day. If you get one just sign up on the web for Skype and you can call just about anywhere for free....even overseas.

If you buy a Mac laptop, the camera and software are built right in - works out of the box. I use both Skype and the built-in Video Ichat to talk to and see family members.

Tucker, Logitech puts one out that works fine, and isn't very expensive. Look on EBay, there is usually one listed.

Dell and Gateway has laptops and desktops that have built in cameras. But buying one with the software, Hugh is correct and they are not that pricey.

We have a Logiteck Quickcam. It looks like a golfball on a stand and it works great. We have Windows Live Messenger and are able to talk & see our grandkids whenever. It also is a free thing.

Good luck with your search.

Cliff,
They work on dial-up although you do suffer some hitches and delays occasionally, worth a try tho.
Hope life is good for you mate......

We used ours on a dialup for several years and like John says there are hiccups with slower speeds. In such cases you just hit the video pause button and just keep on talking!!!
