| | Re: Is there nickel in tool steel? I also wonder if you are trying to protect a certain area of skin that you couldn't use a product like 'new skin' to mask the area and prevent contact...just a thought... |

| | Re: Is there nickel in tool steel? Tony ,
I thought about that, but that does have a tendency to break down with friction.
I though of exam gloves , but , they make your hands sweat so bad , might cause a spread of the problem.

| | Re: Is there nickel in tool steel? Theres a wrap that folks use to protect fingers when doing stained glass. I found some wrap at farm supply, they use it for horses, I cut it on a band saw so that it was the same width of masking tape (plus lasted longer). But, instead of using it on your fingers, maybe you could wrap the steel and replace it as needed. Another thought, you could dip the tools in that liquid plastic (protecting the cutting edge from getting covered). I guess I would find a way to cover the steel instead of your fingers especially after your comment about sweating, you want to be as comfortable as much as possible otherwise it takes the fun out of the hobby. |

| | Re: Is there nickel in tool steel? hmm...nickel...thats probably what is in my daughters silver flute. She was getting a rash on her lower lip and chin from it. I ended up puting tedlar tape over the mouth piece, it helped but not completely. |

| | Re: Is there nickel in tool steel? Geez Vickie...none of my tools have nickel in them.....its all dollars! ....seriously tho, my wife has an allergy to about anything that isn't silver or gold too.....on tools.....put some tape across the cutting ends and spray the metal good a few times with polyurathane....its a tough finish and you will not be touching the metal....simple fix......my wife has fixed some of her earrings by just coating the backs with clear fingernail polish. |

Mine are dollars too. That is a good idea, spraying them. I will have to do something they are so sore I can't hardly bend them. |

| | Re: Is there nickel in tool steel? There is another product out, can't think of the name of it...but its an electrical tape that melds into itself making a continuous piece of rubber, that on the shanks would stop contact as well. |
