| | Stupid Mistake #2 **graphic photo warning** I did it again! Tonight I was merely pulling a carving knife out of it's sheath and cut myself.....again........deep. My wife wouldn't let me fix it myself this time so I went in to the ER and got 3 stitches. I think I'll have to really think about those cut resistant gloves.....now....before I lose a limb...LOL

Yep, you better wear a carving glove for sure. I have one of the stainless carving gloves and a thumb guard I wear. Saved my limbs a few times actually more than I care to admit.
Take care,

| | Re: Stupid Mistake #2 **graphic photo warning** Wives are like that! I keep suchers and a needle in my carving kit. Wife has a fit when I have had to use them. Most of the time I can hide a bad cut from her. Exept for the time she had to get the end of my thumb off my band saw. Couldn't hide that one from her! I have a butchers glove if you want it. Its a little big for me. I take a medium glove when I buy motorcycle gloves but this glove is too loose. Pm me an addy and I will send it to you!

| | Re: Stupid Mistake #2 **graphic photo warning** Right on the inside of the index finger... just where it always gets me!
I don't have anything left in that particular area but scar tissue so I have to wear a carving glove!
Looks like a good clean slit and a nice sewing job so you should be back at it (carving wood, that is) rather quick. |

| | Re: Stupid Mistake #2 **graphic photo warning** Mottles, I'm in the process of getting one now.
papasar, I'm thinking more along the lines of a full bear suit...LOL
decoycarve, my wife ratted me out to the doctor about my last suture job, the doctor just shook her head and had the nurse give me a tetnus shot....PM sent
Lightininbolt, I was back at the carving as soon as we got home from the hospital, a little more careful this time pulling the knife from it's sheath.
The one good thing that came from this is that the knife was holding a razor edge so the cut was very clean, deep but clean.

| | Re: Stupid Mistake #2 **graphic photo warning** LOL....we're a clumsy bunch, aren't we! Good idea getting a glove....finally! Never too late I suppose, before you do something really nasty. I have a good design for a nice leather apron if you're interested, the legs are usually next!
Hope it heals well and you didn't get blood on your work.

| | Re: Stupid Mistake #2 **graphic photo warning** Well Gilly, I'm certainly glad to hear you finally decided to get that carving glove!! Looks like a nice clean cut though, it sewed up well and should heal quickly! Please be VERY careful until you get that glove!
Sewed yourselves up Gilly and Goody, I can't imagine doing that! Hmmmm, did pierce my own ears though, so I guess I could probably do it! Deborah |

| | Re: Stupid Mistake #2 **graphic photo warning** Maybe I'll give butter carving a try......then I can use plastic knives and save my limbs. At this rate, I'm going to have to wear a hockey helmet when I carve as well...........no I didn't take the small school bus when I was a kid....LOL

| | Re: Stupid Mistake #2 **graphic photo warning** Bob, last time I cut myself good, other than my leg a month ago, was at that beach east of Chatham, right on the coast. I was digging clams with my hands and a quohog got me on the tip of my middle finger, at least a 1/4 inch into my finger nail, jagged rough cut and full of sand a sea water. But the clams were good, I took them home and my girlfriend made me a chowder...........mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.............chow ........der............
