I can completely agree with the bit about the upside down painting. Somebody in the Canadian Government had an artsy-farsty moment when he or she autrhorized something like a quarter million dollar payout for something called 'voice of fire'. A single wide band of red painted down a white sheet. Must have taken all of 10 minutes and 00.00% brain effort to come up with that.

I like the sort of art where you can at least recognize something. If there isn't at least one point of common reference, how in heck does the 'artist' expect to get through to the viewer?

I've viewed many many many paintings, sketches, sculptures, assemblies, carvings, etchings and whatever else you can think of. I have an open mind and I don't draw the line at something I think is ugly or stupid. But I repeat an earlier comment, most modern art is crap. Sometimes literally. Who was the clown that 'created' a 'masterpiece' that involved dozens of rolls of used toilet paper strung up along some fencing? Waste of time, money and contained zero artistic effort.
