| | Shop Music What does everyone listen to when they're carving. I either listen to the classic rock station or put some tunes on my 5 disc change. I use headphones when I power carve and turn the music up to cover the noise of the machine. My wife asked why I was using headphones and I told her it was for hearing protection. She got a kick out of that response.

| | Re: Shop Music Sometimes I listen to classic rock or retro-active on the digital cable, sometimes I listen to my 6 CD changer, and lately I've been listening to a website called Pandora.com, ( this is a site where you give it an artist or song and it plays stuff that is relative, then you can tell it you either like or dislike the song and it learns what you like and after a while it plays mostly just stuff you like).I don't power carve so I don't need it that loud, unless I'm working at the scrollsaw, then I turn it up. |

| | Re: Shop Music When I first got out of school I taught music for 9 years. I pretty much like all types of music and I listen to a little bit of everything except hard rock, progressive jazz and strident throaty southern gospel.
I like to carve to music that augments my carving. For instance, if I am carving a figure that I think looks like it could be found in a Swiss shop in the Alps, I play Swiss folk music. A religious carving, for me, always calls for English and Russian Sacred music. Try this sometime, play some music that maybe you aren't accustom to hearing but something that you feel mirrors the subject you are carving. It puts one into a real creative mood and ,I feel, helps my carving. Has anyone else done this? |

| | Re: Shop Music It depends on my mood but usually it is filk, country, or celtic. Occasionally I will dig out the trance and techno but that doesn't last to long as it gets me going but can be wearing after a while. |

| | Re: Shop Music Good topic, good question!
I always play music while I'm carving, except when I'm trying to concentrate on something to carve really fine detail. I listen to some Celtic, Light Rock, sea shanties, and other traditional Maritime music. Some of my favorites are: Celine Dion, Ann Murray, Leona Lewis, Enya, Loreena MacKennitt, Enrique Iglesias, Kris Kristofferson, Bon Jovi, and John Denver.
Have some nice "sounds of the sea" relaxation CD's I enjoy!

| | Re: Shop Music This topic really caught my eye. I have been listening to my walkman for years. My wife and sons convinced me I needed an MP3. Went to Best Buy expecting to pay a little more due to the passage of time. WOW! It took a while for them to convince me to replace the walkman. They won out when the saleslady slipped one in my shirt pocket and said, "Can your walkman do that?"
Now, I have gone crazy, my wife's version, downloading specific pieces. Anyway, my favorite music genre is Folk....the old stuff. But, I also listen to a lot of classic (my son's influence} and have a complete collection of Roger Whittaker. |
