| | Shawn Cipa I'm working on a couple of Cipa patterns and wondered if anyone has any update on Shawn from his mishap during the "block party"... Hope he is doing well!

| | Re: Shawn Cipa I thought we heard he had an auto accident just before the block party at Fox Chapel. He was scheduled to have a section, but was unable to attend.
(Hope I didn't let any kittys out of the bag!)

| | Re: Shawn Cipa Here's the word from Shawn:
Funny you ask that - I do have some complications from the accident. If you recall, I did break my left arm, which healed nicely, however, I jumped right into my holiday orders, and I had quite a few. I had felt a bit of pain stemming from my elbow, which I recognized as tendonitis ( I had it in my right arm mildly several years ago). I tried to take precautions, but still plugged along. Well, it became much worse by December, and I was experiencing a great deal of pain by the time the holidays hit. It was difficult just to turn a door knob, tuck in my shirt, pull up my zipper, etc. I gave it a rest for about three weeks, but it was not getting any better. I was (am ) starting to panic, because I need to jump on the Gargoyle book. So, finally, just last week, I found a doctor who specializes in sports injuries, and now I am in therapy. Turns out, through all the years that I have been carving at full throttle, I have been damaging my forarm and tendons, very much like a tennis player or golfer does. Eventually it caught up with me, and the break weakened my arm enough to bring it out. I literally have "carver's elbow"! Epicondylitis, to be precise.
I cannot do much carving right now, if any. It just hurts too much, plus it counteracts my therapy. The doctor is going to give me an aggressive schedule, much like an athlete, so that I can hopefully get up and running again. Carving is a big part of my livelihood, and I made him aware that downtime really sets me back. |

| | Re: Shawn Cipa Shawn, Sorry to hear of the complications. We certainly missed you in Pennsylvania!
Take care of the arm, the last thing you need to be told is not to carve again at all!
Good luck, our prayers are with you.
Michael
