Default ScOrE!

OMG! I was so excited to tell you guys of my luck!
A friend of mine owns the local thrift shop and she calls me when something I have to have comes in...nice,huh?
Yesterday she called and said go up to the store siome books came in you will want. OK, I went up. I was not expecting the coolest wood carving books! Were talking Vintage baby! My favorite is a Sunset Wood carving book. Written by a woman named Doris Aller...Oh lordy! I was so stunned to open this book! Every page is something I HAVE made or want to make! It was such an expirience! I layed in bed this morning telling my husband "Oh my GAwd! loooookit lookit!" And the smell...sniiiif...that old book smell...siiiigh
He was laughing at me, but thought it was so cool. He told me the neatest thing..."Something Ancient is coming out in you."
(((Pause and Stare)))
That is about the coolest thing he has ever said. Wow.
But the books! Holy Cow!
The Sunset one is from 1951 and cost $1.95 THEN! Ha...wow.
I have several others even a nice hardback on carving birds.
Falconer are you listening? ha
One on Birds, water fowl and another on birds...lol...do we have a book swap happening anywhere on the board?
The bird books even have patterns...wow.
Well, as you can tell...I am beside myself. I can't wait to start working!
Love you guys!

Very cool indeed! You sure got blessed! Someone does have a book swap going on, don't remember where. Have fun with your "books"! I love the smell of old books and magazines, except sometimes choke me up! Another cool thing would be old carving tools! What a great friend you have!

Keoma, I think you should get alittle more exited. What were some of the titles and authors? I'm really glad to see a carver so pumped up over information it's so refreshing.

Old treasures like you describe are the greatest. Too many in our area are in a rush for the newest and slickest stuff. Always glad to take their old things. You remind me of the great find I made. Painting for a friend in a rehab house. I always cruise through on my lunch breaks. Under piles of junk in the basement is an old carving bench with wood screw vises, two of them. Thick slabs of bench top and just that old wood, great craftsmanship one looks for. for your find, Kemona.

Believe it or not,,I have a copy of that same book. It's in pieces,,had some water damage. But as a kid,,,I used to flip through it in awe. Never did anything in it,,but was always fascinated with it. My dad had carved a spoon,,his one and only carving. I was amazed with that as well. Guess the carving bug hit me pretty early as I'm sure it did most people here.

Just took awhile to get me moving.Say,,,35yrs......

lol...I have several older carving books around here, but alas, I can't read so I just look at the pictures .........I agree with falconer, you have to start developing some enthusiasm about this stuff!

These are the 3 bird books she gave me. 2 softcovers and one hard. I may have to try a decoy...lol...just for my Grandpa at least! I stayed up so late last night going through these! I had a pad of paper next to me and a pecil in my teeth...my husband was laughing at me...BUT! I thought how cool of a carving would that be?!
Picture this!
Sitting in a bed under a fluffy patchwork quilt...the latest copy of WCI in her hands and a pencil in her teeth...a pad of paper next to her...Oh! Hair up in a big quick ,messy bun - now that would be a carving! HA!
okokok...the pictures!
