These days leaving anything unattended is fair game for those who choose to do wrong ..
Iam sorry carvedbear if this is the case .. because I remember that Buffalo you showed us ..
A sad thing .. but always remember .. you still have the wonderful talent of creating another one .. no one can take that away from you ..
God Bless
Gene

| | Re: A sad thing happed to one of my Carvings I am so sorry to hear this..... It makes you sick when something like this happens. You took it there because it was one of your best to date, and someone steals it.... I have always feared this and I think we all do. Our State Fair has a large woodcarving competition that is well attended. I have placed carvings in the competition 3 times with no problems. But an aquaintance of mine was not so lucky. He is a bird carver and a few years ago his best (at the time) carving in.
The signing in and signing out of a carving is a pretty straightforward thing and you get a claim ticket that you had better have on you when you go to pick up the piece. But somehow, after the Fair, in all the confusion, someone just picked up his piece and walked off with it. People are supposed to be watching and checking claim tickets but something went wrong.
The worst of it is, it was probably another carver...... After I heard what happened to his carving, I am not willing to put another of mine in. It isn't just a piece of wood. We put so much of ourselves into our work. I hope you got photos of the piece at least.
If fairs and other carving competitions expect people to enter their work and leave it on display, there should be reasonably good security. |

| | Re: A sad thing happed to one of my Carvings Sorry to hear this. I don't know if it's happening more and more or what. But when it does happen I know how it feels. Several years ago I had a Noahs Arks plus 20 pairs of carved animals stolen from a gift shop where I sell some stuff. Out of a large shop, my Ark and a carved swan were the only things stolen. The policeman that was investigating told me that they would probably not recover the stolen pieces. But he went on to say, that maybe after all my anger goes; that I should feel honored that in a shop with so much very nice stuff, a thief selected my art and one others as worthy to risk steeling. I don't know if that helped or not. Maybe it did on some level.
Again, sorry to hear about your "lost" work...Tom H |

| | Re: A sad thing happed to one of my Carvings So sorry to hear about your carving. They do become a part of us and I'm sure it hurts not knowing where it is. I keep track of all carvings and there is only one that I can't account for. It wasn't stolen, but given to a 'friend' of my wife who in turn gave to someone else and won't tell me who. We don't always understand why people do what they do, but life goes on and they'll pay in the long run. Just keep carving and I hope you did at least get a pic of it.

Its a sad thing when you lose a carving in that manor, but I can guarantee it wasn't a carver that took it,more then likely a kid who doesn't know what he took.Thats why I quit doing the Fair, the people looking over the things didn't really watch it very good. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
