| | sacamento , ca. carving show went to the Sacamento carving show this last weekend. great show, well known carvers there .....but only about 1/2 the size as last year and hardly anyone there......boy are we losing carvers....hard to compete with tv I guess. there is a lot of talent ....and boy did it show up at the show. I kept my hands in my pockets when I went by the tools for sale...just what i need is another knife..... stoped by Fred and Elaines stenman booth and was telling them how well my grand kid ( who was with us) could carve ........elaine got up from her chair... just left us .....she came back in a few min. and gave my grandson one of her blank relief woodcarvings that she sales for around $15.00 and explained to him how to carve it...... I guess If we keep holding our carving classes in the middle of the week .....( during school) ...and at the senior centers where they won't let kids in ........and we don't spend time to teach .........in a few more years ...it will only be us at the carving shows (You and Me)

| | Re: sacamento , ca. carving show Hi Jim, if I still live in Northern California I sure would be at that show too. Sounds like some excellent carvers present. I have to wonder if other carving shows were down in participation too. As the Grand Canyon, Desert Carvers show was down in entree's this past February. At least from what I could tell from the previous year. I must say though the quality of work shown wasn't any less. Wonderful carvers! Jim we have Junior carvers in our Prescott Wood Bee Carvers club. We do ask that a parent be present at all times. We have three young people and all three have won awards for their carvings. It is important to welcome young carvers and help them to learn the wonderful art and hobby of carving. Kathy |

| | Re: sacamento , ca. carving show I missed it as well, due to other crap that always gets in the way! I say we all make a date to meet there next year! That would be great fun! We could beef up the attendance a bit...bring friends and family for a few more bodies too!
Glad some of you went and were able to meet!

| | Re: sacamento , ca. carving show Jim, I can't answer for any of the shows I have attended but The Wichita show last month was a nice one with well known cavers there also. Several CCA founding members and members there.
Just got through with a class with Phil and Vicki Bishop and do hope you get in their class when they come your way. They have so much to offer and super nice people. |
