Default Rewscue of an OLD sign

My hunting partner came over the other day with a sign that used to hang near his dad's camp back in the 40's. It says "C. F. Johnson" and was pretty well weatherbeaten and starting??? to rot. Anyway, he wanted to give it to his son "C. D. Johnson" so he wanted one side of it changed to that and the other left as is, but he also wanted it ready to be hung back at his son's place.

I had to clean out all the old paint from the incised letters, filled the cross bars on the "F" on one side, then carve a new "D" in it's place, treat the whole thing to stop any further deterioration, seal it and finally place a top on it to keep further water from penetrating the original sign.

Anyway, heres' the result. Not really a carving as such, but it was nice to be able to rescue a piece of his family history for him.

Al

It's always fun to restore a sentimental piece.
I did a few years back while in KY. (General store sign) I wish i had the picture to show. The sign dated from early 40's.
Good work..
