| | Refinishing my Bathroom I started the project of redoing my bathroom friday night. What I've learned is it's easier to carve wood then it is to do finish carpentry. My hats off to these guys. I have been cutting wrong angles and measuring wrong for two days . Oh well! All's I know is I miss my carving knife.

| | Re: Refinishing my Bathroom Gergie... Don't give up hope. Just keep in mind the basic formula of home improvement. "You can usually screw something up three times before it would have been cheaper to have hired someone to do it right in the first place." And that's the old version. With today's labor prices you can probably increase that by a factor of 5.

| | Re: Refinishing my Bathroom Yeah, you could have taken out a second mortgage and hired me! Travel time to MN would be a killer though.
Seriously, I admire homeowners who pitch in. I tell them, "You probly won't do this job as fast as a pro, but if you have good equipment and the right materials, you can produce a professional result." Best of luck to you.

| | Re: Refinishing my Bathroom I know where you're coming from,,just finished mine. I took it down to the studs, rafters and joists, blew out a wall,,moved the windows ( brick walls) all electrical out and all plumbing out including the main waste pipes down through the basement,,quite simply just gutted the whole thing.Logistics were tough since this is the only bathroom. Boy that was fun!

| | Re: Refinishing my Bathroom yep me too...I just finished my kitchen & dinning room remodel...did 75% myself, from demo, all new electrical, some plumbing, to the finished hardwood floor...hired out the cabs and granite counters though...for us it was almost three months without a working kitchen, no fun there but in the end it was worth it your hard work will pay off in the end, monetarily and self satisfaction.

| | Re: Refinishing my Bathroom Nice Job on the kitchen. Sounds and looks and like I should have made a few phone calls. Well the bathrooms done except for a few tweaks here and there. I notice all the mistakes, but my wife is happy so that's all that counts. Anyway the Knife is back in my hands and it's time to "relax" now.

I think we need to think that way to improve on our carving skills.
